I Completed The Three-Part Saving Series
Meet Mark, a single father of 11-year-old Elijah. Mark completed the Fund My Future Three-Part Saving Series in December 2020. He was a participant of the first cohort hosted by the Homewood Early Learning Hub and Family Center, where he is involved in the Fathers’ Program.
Mark first heard about the Fund My Future Saving Series through an email he received from the Homewood Early Learning Hub and Family Center. It automatically sparked his interest when he saw that he would be attending three separate sessions to learn about saving. In his first session, “All About Fund My Future,” he learned about saving for his child and receiving chances to win up to $1000 and he immediately signed up for that. Then there was the second session “Intro to Savings,” where he received information from representatives from the Hill District Federal Credit Union and the Pennsylvania State Treasury. This information included options of saving at a credit union and PA529. In his final session he heard from a financial counselor from the Financial Empowerment Center and found out how he could get free one-on-one financial counseling. He also received information on how he could receive his free credit reports during the pandemic. All of these resources he received for FREE!!! As an added incentive, The Homewood Early Learning Hub and Family Center also agreed to make the initial $25 deposit into whichever savings vehicle any of their families chose for their children.
Mark set aside time to attend every session held on Tuesday evenings from 6pm – 7pm. He’s glad that he did because although he was currently saving for his son, he felt the sessions were very informative and he now has a better understanding of how his son can better manage the money he makes when he works with him on various odd jobs. Mark is dedicated to spreading the word to his family and those in his community. He recently contacted Ms. Corinealdi to let her know that his son’s school is interested in hosting a Fund My Future Three-Part Series for families. He is truly excited to be a part of the Fund My Future movement and thinks every family should incorporate saving into their regular habits. He always talks to his son about saving and will use the information he learned to help his son manage his money so that when he gets older he will have developed the habit of saving and managing money.

Minimum $10 Deposit = $1000 Winner
“Just do it! Every little bit helps. I never thought I could win and look at me, I won!”
Stefani was on her way to look at an apartment when she received a voice message on her phone. She decided to check the message, thinking it might be something about the apartment. But it was a message from Ms. Corinealdi of Fund My Future stating that she was a $1000 winner. She listened to it again to be sure of what she heard. By now she thought she had won but still wasn’t sure. She told her family and friends and they were all questioning this so-called win.
Stefani decided to complete the survey after responding to the voicemail, thinking to herself that she would prove everyone wrong because she remembered signing up for Fund My Future through Pennsylvania Treasury’s Keystone Scholars.
After Stefani enrolled in Fund My Future, she opened a PA529 for her baby with a minimum opening deposit of $10. She figured $10 was something that she could do every month and decided to set up automatic monthly deposits. Although she didn’t start saving for herself until she was in high school, starting at birth for her child was something she was excited to do, so her child will be better prepared than she was.
After receiving the check in the mail, she knew it was real and couldn’t wait to tell her family and friends. Now she’s hoping that they will sign up and take advantage of this amazing saving opportunity.
